چکیده

We investigate the evolution of structures in planetary rings in the neighbourhood of the orbit of an embedded moonlet (small satellite). The effects of collisions have been taken into account by introducing the velocity dependent restitution coefficient according to experimental and theoretical results. Here we present results of recent many-particle simulations which show a significant influence of the interparticle collisions on the formation and persistence of wake structures in a model ring. In contrary to the collision-free model, a stationary, non-mirrorsymmetric wake pattern with decreasing intensity in azimuthal direction is observed. The azimuthal damping rate of the wake intensity is estimated from the data obtained in the simulation.

A Monte Carlo Simulation of Chain Reaction Rear End Potential Collisions on Freeways

In recent research on modelling road collisions very little attention has been paid  to rear-end chain reaction collisions, which is characterized by more than two vehicles involved in a collision at the same time. The core aim of the present research is to develop a methodology to estimate such potential collision probabilities based on a proactive perspective, where deceleration rate to avoid...

Apse Alignment of Narrow Eccentric Planetary Rings

The boundaries of the Uranian ǫ, α, and β rings can be fitted by Keplerian ellipses. The pair of ellipses that outline a given ring share a common line of apsides. Apse alignment is surprising because the quadrupole moment of Uranus induces differential precession. We propose that rigid precession is maintained by a balance of forces due to ring self-gravity, planetary oblateness, and interpart...

Particle in Cell-Monte Carlo Collisions of a Plasma Column Driven by Surface Wave Plasma Discharges

In this work, applicability of Particle in Cell-Monte Carlo Collisions (PIC-MCC) simulation method for better understanding of the plasma physical mechanisms and real important aspects of a plasma column driven by surface wave plasma discharges that is used in plasma antennas is examined. Via the implementation of geometry and physical parameters of the plasma column to an Object Oriented PIC-M...

Tree code simulations of planetary rings

A tree code method that incorporates a local shearing disc model and fourth-order integration algorithm is applied to the problem of planetary rings, with particular emphasis on the dynamics of Saturn's B ring. The new code, described in detail elsewhere, allows for particle self-gravity, a distribution of particle sizes, and surface friction (particle spin). Important changes made to the origi...

Experimental and Numerical Simulation Investigation on Crushing Response of Foam-Filled Conical Tubes Stiffened with Annular Rings

In this paper, crashworthiness characteristics of conical steel tubes stiffened by annular rings and rigid polyurethane foam are investigated. For this purpose, wide circumferential rings are created from the outer surface of the conical tube at some determined areas along tube length. In fact, this method divides a long conical tube into several tubes of shorter length. When this structure is ...
